Springtime is finally here in Boston, and along with it came some rain, the promise of summer, and our new intern, Sean Chase. We welcomed Sean to the Aria team for the spring semester, and we are happy to announce he has decided to stay for the summer. I sat down with Sean to learn a bit more about him, and in order to get all the details, I decided to ask him the five W’s (and one H) – who, what, when, where, why, and how? Read on to learn more!

Who are you? Give us your elevator story.

I’m from a small town in Maine called Fryeburg, which many won’t be familiar with, but it’s on the border of Maine and New Hampshire. I wanted to leave Maine for college, and Boston was the perfect location so that’s how I ended up at Lasell College, where I’m studying communications and concentrating in public relations and sports communication. I’ve always been passionate about sports, specifically soccer because I spent my whole life playing and coaching, so it’s a dream of mine to one day work on the public relations side of sports. Other than playing soccer, I like to spend my time exploring Boston. When I’m home in Maine, I love to spend my time outside snowboarding, hiking or boating with friends.

What is one thing you are most looking forward to this year?

I’m excited about heading into my senior year of college. Though it’s nerve-racking to think of myself not as a student anymore, I can’t wait to start achieving my career goals.

When did you realize you were interested in public relations?

Initially, I was concentrating on journalism …that is, until my “writing for public relations” course. My professor, Kristina Markos (a former Aria employee), urged me to get involved with public relations in some way. Through this class, I learned more about public relations and career opportunities and felt this is what I should’ve been doing all along. I ended up changing my concentration to public relations, and then found out about Aria when CEO Scott Collins and EVP Jessica Cohen came to talk to our class about the industry!

Where is your favorite place to visit?

My favorite place has to be where I grew up in Maine. It’s a small-town vibe where everyone knows each other and there isn’t a whole lot to do unless you like the outdoors, but I wouldn’t change where I grew up for anything. Maine is truly “the way life should be,” as you’ll see on ‘welcome to Maine’ signs when entering the state. City-life is cool and fun, but nothing beats having the White Mountains in your backyard, and being just a short drive away from several ski resorts in the winter and lakes in the summer.

Why did you decide to extend your internship at Aria through the summer?

I chose to extend my internship at Aria because I want to continue to learn and gain more experience in the public relations industry. In the past four months at Aria, I have learned a lot about public relations and have had an opportunity to take what I have learned in the classroom and apply it to real-world scenarios. It has been a fun challenge to learn the ropes of the healthcare industry but I’m starting to get a real grasp on the content. I have also enjoyed working with such an awesome team, so I am excited to continue this journey and learn more along the way!

How many countries have you visited?

I have visited two countries. I’ve been to Canada twice (Montreal) with friends and I just went to the Netherlands over spring break, where I visited my friend studying right outside of Amsterdam. Experiencing a new culture really opened my eyes and I’m ready for my next trip to Europe, which will hopefully be London next year after I graduate!
