…and no one is around to hear… you know the rest. It’s a philosophical question for the ages. I have a similar query for my marketing and PR colleagues. If you create a great piece of content, but no one sees it, does it even matter? We’ve all been told that content is king, and if that is in fact true, then distribution is surely queen. A king without subjects (like content without an audience) wouldn’t be much of a king at all.

As my internship comes to a bittersweet close, I wanted to take the time to reflect on the amazing and rewarding experience I had here at Aria Marketing. Through the Northeastern University co-op program, I was able to join the Aria team as an intern, eager to begin my PR agency journey. Right away, Aria exposed me to every aspect of public relations, and I was immersed into the Aria culture.

The terms ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’ have been thrown around for months now, and while your definition of what constitutes fake news may differ depending on your political leanings, the fact that these terms have risen to the top of national discourse is concerning. As PR professionals, it’s hard not to take a step back and examine how our role as communicators influenced the rise of fake news and alternative facts.

Public Relations professionals get a bad rap. No matter where it began, the misconception of PR people as “spinners” is out there, and has been furthered by stereotypes, assumptions, and narrow perspective. Why should you trust me, a PR professional? Because I only recently stepped onto the public relations side from the other side of the aisle. Just a couple years ago, I was a full-fledged journalist.

Most people know that October marks breast cancer awareness month, though for all too many of us, breast cancer is something we are aware of year round. Whether we are battling the disease, supporting a family member who is, or taking steps to ensure proper screening, we are inundated with reminders that the risk of breast cancer is very real.

As we all (should) know, social media is a valuable, even essential, tool for connecting businesses with a wider audience. At Aria Marketing, in addition to our public relations work, we lead social media programs for our healthcare clients, developing organic and paid content to boost sales and increase their digital reach. Through social media channels, our clients can share relevant news stories, promote recent coverage, and connect with other industry leaders. But, creating great social media content can only go so far; engagement from employees and a broader audience is needed to propel the content, and company, forward.

They say the month of March comes in like a lion, which certainly rang true for our Aria team as we began the month by heading to Las Vegas for HIMSS18 (which we lovingly refer to as our PR Super Bowl). The event was a great success for us and our clients, but it wasn’t the only March highlight. Check out some other notable client wins from last month:

One of the greatest benefits about transitioning to a virtual workforce is having the ability to access a talent pool far beyond Massachusetts (where our office was formerly located). At Aria, our healthcare public relations team is quickly taking advantage of this, welcoming employees from outside the Greater Boston area, like our newest Senior Account Executive, Karina Stabile, who joins us from Long Island, New York. I had the pleasure of (virtually) sitting down with Karina to find out a bit more about her. Teaser: when Karina isn’t writing pitches, creating thought leadership agendas, or developing media strategies, she’s busy training for marathons or enjoying a Broadway show. Read on to learn more about Karina.

Our team at Aria is growing like weeds this summer! For this blog post, I got to know our newest account coordinator, Danielle Adams, and account executive, Kara McCrudden, and found out some of their big life goals, dreams, and favorite things (including their mutual love of defunct bands from the early-2000’s, and Harry Potter).

Now that Aria Marketing is a fully remote healthcare IT PR agency, we have been able to hire the best-of-the-best people from around the country to better service our clients and secure great coverage. Since we aren’t sitting across from each other anymore, we must be creative when it comes to getting to know our coworkers. I had the pleasure of virtually “sitting down” with Anisa Lacey, our newest Account Coordinator, to get to know her better outside the office. Read on for more about Anisa.

The Aria team has been working remotely since March of 2020. Of course, this transition came with initial challenges but we are fortunate to be in a profession where we can secure results for our health IT clients from anywhere with a WiFi connection. Despite the tumultuous nature of past year, it has been one of steady growth for Aria, and we are excited that we were able to welcome many new faces to the team!

Maddi Larsen, account coordinator and trivia superstar, joined Aria at the beginning of 2021. I had the pleasure of catching up with her to discuss quarantine hobbies, her background, and why she moved across the country to Boston:

If you follow us on social media, you know that at Aria, we love to celebrate any and all major milestones. Well, we recently celebrated an old one… oops, I mean “a big one,” as our President, Scott Collins, just hit the big 5-0! In honor of Scott’s birthday, we asked him to share some little known facts about himself:

As most of us in the healthcare IT sphere know, telehealth adoption has exploded thanks to COVID-19. In fact, according to a recent survey from our client Kyruus, 75% of patients had their first virtual visit in 2020 and Frost & Sullivan forecasts a sevenfold growth in telehealth usage by 2025.

At the start of the pandemic, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the Department for Health and Human Services (HHS) eased some HIPAA security rules to aid with the rapid shift to virtual care, particularly specifically allowing health systems to use non-compliant remote communication technology such as Zoom, Skype or FaceTime without facing penalties. While the move sped up the adoption of telemedicine, it didn’t eliminate the security and privacy risks associated with them.
