One of the greatest benefits about transitioning to a virtual workforce is having the ability to access a talent pool far beyond Massachusetts (where our office was formerly located). At Aria, our healthcare public relations team is quickly taking advantage of this, welcoming employees from outside the Greater Boston area, like our newest Senior Account Executive, Karina Stabile, who joins us from Long Island, New York. I had the pleasure of (virtually) sitting down with Karina to find out a bit more about her. Teaser: when Karina isn’t writing pitches, creating thought leadership agendas, or developing media strategies, she’s busy training for marathons or enjoying a Broadway show. Read on to learn more about Karina.

Tell me a little bit about yourself. Where are you from?

I was born and raised on Long Island, NY, but now live about 30 minutes to the north in Long Beach, walking distance from the ocean.

What are some of your hobbies?

Fitness is my big passion; I love working out, especially strength training. I go through phases where I do a lot of running and endurance workouts too and have completed a couple of marathons and half marathons. I even taught group exercise classes on weekends for many years before the pandemic hit. I love going on challenging hikes and being outdoors, and in the summer I spend lots of time at the beach, of course! I also really enjoy baking and doing creative projects like mosaics and sketching.

I know you have two pet rabbits; can you tell me a little more about them?

Sure! Their names are Dexter and Roxy and they are both rescues – five years ago I adopted my first rabbit, Dolly, and had such a bond with her that I became a full-fledged crazy “bunny lady” and now even volunteer at the rescue organization that I got them. Dexter is very sweet and cuddly, while Roxy is more of a diva, but they are both friendly and adorable.

What’s one fact about you that surprises people?

I’m really independent and actually enjoy doing things solo. I think that I grow as a person when I push myself to tackle a new challenge. I also find it therapeutic to occasionally take myself out to a Broadway show or for a walk around NYC. My day-to-day life is very busy, so those times of self-reflection and quietness are like mini-vacations for me. Plus, many people are tough on themselves with high expectations so I believe it is important to take time to reward ourselves when we can.

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

Princess Diana – she did what she felt was right despite pressure to uphold a certain image and her involvement with so many charitable causes and service efforts show a level of compassion and empathy that the world needs more of. Or Leonardo DiCaprio – I love his movies and he’s done some important philanthropic work to help animals, which is very important to me.

How have you found working remotely? Is it what you expected?

I really enjoy it; I wasn’t sure what to expect but I feel really connected to everyone at Aria thanks to our Slack channels, virtual team meetings, and fun activities. I love the extra time built into the day since I no longer have a commute, and appreciate being able to work from anywhere -- my family is scattered all over the country now, so as long as I have my laptop with me, I can visit family and work at the same time!

What is something you want to accomplish within the next ten years?

I want to continue to grow in my career and achieve goals, big and small. Also, the NY Marathon has been on my bucket list for a while now, so I’d like to make that happen and maybe attempt a triathlon too.
