We’re excited to be representing a dozen innovative companies at the largest health IT event of the year, HIMSS17. We’re busy developing press and news strategies, creating compelling messaging and working to connect our clients with key industry influencers. As a result of our efforts last year, we secured over 100 press and analyst meetings, and we’re looking forward to breaking that record this year. But, before we pack our bags and head to Orlando, here’s a few of the topics (in hashtag form) that we’re most excited to talk about at the show.

HIMSS is kicking off with a pre-education symposium that will be focused on highlighting the challenges, innovations and the big promise of precision medicine. During the conference, multiple presenters will share breakthroughs in this emerging field, including speakers from the NIH Center for Cancer Research and Oregon Health and Science University. Our client, 2bPrecise, will also be leading a HIMSS “Your Turn” discussion on how genomic data can be brought to the point of care.

With the uncertainty surrounding the ACA, the impact of impending legislation is sure to be a hot topic at this year’s conference. We anticipate that Former House Speaker John Boehner will get a lot of questions on the potential ACA repeal when he comes to deliver his keynote address on political perspectives. Other regulatory issues, such as MACRA, are also sure to be in the spotlight as healthcare organizations prepare for the future of quality reporting and other value-based care initiatives.

According to HIMSS latest Cybersecurity Survey, eighty-five percent of providers said information security was a greater business priority for their organization in 2016. For the third consecutive year, HIMSS is running a Cybersecurity Command Center on the show floor which will feature technology demonstrations and learning opportunities to help address threats.  Our client, Cynergistek, will also present a case study with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare on making the right investment in security.

Interoperability has easily been one of the most talked about topics for the past several HIMSS shows, and we expect the conversation to continue at HIMSS17. Many sessions will discuss health IT’s role in empowering the efficient delivery of care and the strides that have been made towards achieving interoperability. Specifically, our client MAeHC will co-present with Reliant Medical Group to explain how practicing health information exchange has helped improve population health.
