One of the best parts about working at a virtual healthcare IT PR agency is using creative means to build relationships with our colleagues and get to know them better outside of the day-to-day workflow. Recently, I connected with our newest Account Executive to learn what makes her tick and what is of interest. Read on for more about Janee.

Anisa: Where are you from? Where do you live now?

Janee: I’m from Long Island, NY, and I still live here. In the future, I’m hoping to move to a state that’s warm all year round.

Anisa: Where did you go to school, and what did you major in?

Janee: I went to St. Joseph’s University (formally St. Joseph’s College) and double majored in English / Journalism and New Media.

Anisa: So why PR? What drew you to the industry?

Janee: I’ve always had a passion for writing -- I started out as a reporter for a local newspaper and really enjoyed writing profile pieces and features that promoted local businesses. I enjoy sharing people’s stories, interests, and professional goals with the public. So, PR makes sense for me. It allows me to be part of a person’s/business’s journey and allows me to leverage writing in creative ways to help them meet their goals.

Anisa: It’s cool that you have that POV as a former journalist. I’m sure that those insights come in handy. Outside of work, what’s a skill you’d like to improve on?

Janee: Meditation is something I’d like to improve on. I’m very passionate about mental health and mindfulness so I think it’s important to incorporate exercises into your daily routine that can benefit you mentally. Naturally as a PR pro, my brain runs a mile a minute, so meditation is something I’d like to work on to bring my mind to a calmer state.

Anisa: Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

Janee: A hidden talent I guess would be my photography and photo editing skills. I really enjoy editing photos and fixing any issues that are in the frame. My Slack profile photo is actually two different pictures that I was able to modify into one. As a hobby, I enjoy going on hikes and collecting comics and/or comic book/movie themed merchandise. I have way too many graphic t-shirts.

Great, now for the lightning round. I’m keen to get your rapid-fire thoughts on the below. . .

Anisa: What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?

Janee: Assuming this is one of those survival type situations, I’d bring a knife for self-defense, a fishing net for food and a satellite phone to get me out of there.

Anisa: What show are you currently binge-watching?

Janee: Modern Family and The Last Kingdom

Anisa: What’s your least favorite chore around the house?

Janee: Cleaning the bathroom. HATE IT.

Anisa: Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Janee: Night owl. It’s a constant struggle.

Anisa: Thanks Janee! Last question. As we head into fall, any seasonal favorites (food, activities, etc.)?

Janee: I love going pumpkin picking with my family and always pick up pumpkin bread for myself. This is also the best season for hiking with my dog, so I make sure to do that as much as possible this time of year. I also binge watch all the Harry Potter movies leading up to Halloween.
