As Boston’s cold winter approaches, we’re offering a particularly warm welcome to Aria’s newest team member and North Carolinian, Madeleine Smith. Madeleine just joined the team in October as an account coordinator at Aria. During her first week, I sat down with Madeleine to learn about her passions, favorite music, and even her next hair style.  Read on to learn more!

As the world starts turning after months of lockdowns and restrictions, the healthcare market – and our clients-- saw major developments in telehealth, vaccine rollouts, patient engagement, and the long-awaited Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology rule updates on interoperability. With double-digit client attendance and dozens of meetings staffed over four days, the Aria team is exhausted, but happy to be home and looking back on another successful HIMSS conference. As always, there were many themes and buzzwords that permeated this year’s show: AI, big data, population health, blockchain and predictive analytics, to name a few. But, the biggest buzz had to be around the remarks from Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator, Seema Verma, and her surprise guest, Jared Kushner (who is supposedly the Director of the White House Office of American Innovation).

As PR professionals, the majority of our communications are handled online – from distributing press releases to conducting competitor research to media relations. However, one thing we often do not consider while doing all of this is cybersecurity.

While cybersecurity might not be front and center on PR professionals’ minds, it is the number one action item for cybercriminals. Just like the 24-hour news cycle, cybercriminals work around the clock to seek out and target unsuspecting users. In order to help our peers avoid becoming a cybercrime victim, we have outlined three security best practices below:

I was asked to write a blog post comparing and contrasting what it’s like for public relations executives to work at a PR/marketing agency vs. working in-house. I think I was chosen for this task because I’ve divided my career pretty evenly between the two and my PR colleagues assumed I had some sage advice on how to select one over the other. Spoiler alert: I don’t. A quick Googling of the topic will result in every pro and con you could imagine, and I don’t think I could add much more to the mix. What I can do, however, is share what I have felt to be the most impactful pros and cons of each, which could help others to decide which is the right path for them.

As summer turns into fall and we trade our iced coffees in for pumpkin spiced lattes, we want to take some time to reminisce on all of the ways Aria team members took advantage of #SummerFridays. Yes that’s right, summer Fridays! Here at Aria, each employee gets every other Friday off throughout July and August (talk about a work perk!)

I recently surveyed my colleagues to see how they spent their extra days off this summer and included some of their summer Friday highlights below:

The Aria office was abuzz this week with the news of which clients secured a coveted position on one of the industry’s biggest stages – HIMSS 2018. Considering the time and effort that goes into each (very extensive) speaking proposal, it’s no wonder the public relations team gets excited when notifications come out.

I am very excited to introduce our “Pitch” followers to one of Aria’s newest employees, Lindsey Honig. Lindsey was hired as an Account Executive, and she will be responsible for things like managing speakers’ bureaus and awards programs, running social media initiatives, and executing media relations strategies. Now that Lindsey has survived her first couple of weeks at Aria (and, says she wants to stay!), I thought it would be a good time to sit down with her and get to know her a little bit better. Since she has already sat through enough Aria interviews, I figured a one-minute ‘speed dating’-type interview, a la Watch What Happens Live, would be fun. Here we go!

Weeks ago, when COVID-19 shutdowns began in Boston, we decided to highlight some of the team’s favorite local businesses with the hopes that a social media boost would help increase patronage. Then, as part of our response to the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and so many others, we felt compelled to shift the focus of this post to spotlight our favorite Black- and POC-owned businesses. We invite you to join us in supporting them.

Celebrities are doing it, your kids are doing it, the media is doing it, and even the president is doing it! These days, it seems like everyone is communicating in 160 characters or less. But should your business be #tweeting? We get this question a lot from our healthcare IT clients, and the answer is “yes” – as long as you are tweeting strategically. Companies from every industry are now utilizing Twitter to increase brand awareness and connect with target audiences. Here are the top six reasons why we think your healthcare company should get a handle (Twitter handle that is) on the popular social media platform:

As PR professionals, we are constantly working to get our clients in the conversation – from securing press opportunities and speaking slots to announcing new product launches and strategizing social media programs. The goal of all of this, of course, is to get in front of decision-makers that will be moved enough to take out their wallets – but it’s challenging to directly link PR results to sales, or even to leads. Every once in a while, I get a call or email from someone that read an article about a health IT client and wants to discuss purchasing their technology, but it’s a rare (yet oddly satisfying) occurrence.
